Over 200 years building up huge wealth from the slave trade is apparently negated by the fact Britain finally developed a conscience and abolished it (while, of course, compensating the slave owners massively for the loss of their human "property").
Show PostThe role of the West Africa Squadron is also widely misrepresented. They didn't return the captives they intercepted. They took them elsewhere and sold them into indentureship. It was slavery with a bit of spit and polish.
Show PostI'd suggest that anyone with even the slightest understanding of the transatlantic slave trade and Britain's part in it across three centuries and all the enduring impact that is still widely felt today would accept that an apology is very, very long overdue.
Show Post"Britain's role in ending slavery is often overlooked by our schools"...except it's on the bloody GCSE history syllabus!
Show PostFunny given he wants us to go back to the 1930s
