Show PostThe new media environment doesn’t help here. We’re already seeing with the GOP how electeds can turn political failure into new media success, so the incentives that used to keep politicians responsive to shifts in the electorate just produce talking heads at scale. The incentives are bad.
Show PostThe increasing radicalization of the GOP is making partisanship stickier, and I don’t know what to do about that? We’re going to keep seeing these people, a lot of them well-connected party insiders, stuck to the Democratic Party because they don’t have an out, even as the base of the party changes.
Show PostIt seems to me the problem is part of a larger issue: the widening partisan gap means that the old pipeline of Democrats to Republicans is breaking. It used to be that conservative Democrats could transition to liberal Republicans pretty easily because there was less distance there. Not so anymore!
Show PostI’ve been thinking about Haley Stevens and John Fetterman together because while they’re both clearly people who suck, they also represent an interesting question of our political moment - what happens to the pro-Israel Democrat? Everyone can see where the trend is heading.
