This was on my mind because I was wondering whether a platform has a greater or lesser ethical burden. It seems like it SHOULD be greater, because it includes all participants burdens. But, because platforms behave like monopolies, in practice it seems to be less.

And I think we even sometimes manage to teach that the “if they can” is situational, and that things like monopolies and company towns are bad, though part of the reason to gut education is to keep from getting to that part of the lesson. But with platforms, it gets weird.

High school capitalism has the idea that a factory or store needs to meet some level of good practice, or “the market” will punish it. And, yes, there’s a lot of magical thinking to it, but it at least kind of works in broad strokes. If you punch customers, they’ll leave. If they can.
