Many people here DO want to do much/all of what Musk fears. But in a democracy there is no "permanent majority". Parties adapt to changes in the electorate. Coalitions shift. The move to universal suffrage didn't stop conservative parties from winning. But it required some policy shifts he dislikes.

But that makes it sound like the law's belief in "serving greater justice" is something we've adopted for instrumental reasons- to make us feel better about defending the guilty. Call me naive or an idealist, but I don't think that's accurate.
