Despite his gaffe last year, I compared all bad corporations and judged his one the lesser of all evils, so I did a full migration of all my domains and custom email addresses and calendars and to Proton earlier this year. It was a lot!* I am not a happy bunny today.

And of course the irony here is that Proton isn't really selling "features" (it's email. It's kinda feature complete at this point) as much as selling (the perception of) security/privacy. And if you're calling security testing loser behavior... What exactly am I paying you for?

When Papa John said the N-word on an earnings call and the company dithered about his ouster from the board, and even after he left it didn’t address his attacks on the company or respond in a way that builds trust. It was a reputational disaster. If Proton is smart they won’t repeat those mistakes.

Proton has comms staff, but I don’t know if they have any grounding in PR as a professional practice. Right now, the userbase is up in arms, there is widespread talk of cancelling subscriptions, and very deep anger at Andy Yen, but also very reasonable requests for transparency and accountability.
