I do actually think that you could make the case for evidence-based rejection of neoliberal privatization ideology as a legitimate political stance. We've got empirical data showing that when countries pull this bullshit, they end up poorer and more miserable.

Straight up, the idea that it's somehow going to result in better services and more wealth going around has been proven to be incorrect. A politician advocating for this is advocating for the economic equivalent of flying by taping cardboard "wings" to your arms and jumping off a roof.
