To date, EEOICPA has provided $33,733,570,597 to 119,967 current and former workers diagnosed with a radiogenic cancer, chronic beryllium disease, beryllium sensitivity, or chronic silicosis resulting from exposure to radiation, beryllium, or silica while employed at facilities covered by the law.

Today in 2000, Congress passed and President Bill Clinton signed the Energy Employees Occupational Illness Compensation Act, providing long-overdue payments and medical benefits to people who mined, milled, or transported uranium for nuclear weapons, or who built, tested, or maintained them.

In 1997, Congress authorized transferring the site to the Library of Congress. It now houses the Packard Campus of the library’s 415,000-square-foot National Audio-Visual Conservation Center, including more than 90 linear miles of shelving for historic collections and 35 climate-controlled vaults.

A pre-planned 30-day menu of freeze-dried foods was stored on site, and private wells would provide uncontaminated water after a nuclear attack. The facility also included a cold storage area for maintaining bodies that could not be promptly buried, an incinerator, and an indoor pistol range.

Until July 1992, Mount Pony also served as a continuity of government facility. With a peacetime staff of 100, the site was designed to support an emergency staff of 540 for 30 days (although only 200 beds were provided in the men’s and women’s dormitories).
