It was always a gamble to write a Frasier episode the success of which relied entirely on finding the perfect actor to play a major guest role. No one ever delivered the goods for us, was a bigger joy to work with, or more hilarious than Patrick Stewart. RIP to an immense talent and a lovely man.

Thinking about Patrick Stewart's performance in the BBC version of Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy. He's only in it for five minutes. He doesn't say a single word. He doesn't even do anything other than sit in a cell while Alec Guinness tries to persuade him to talk. And he's mesmerising.
