The pension tax relief thing is a nice trick. It looks like a generous offer to those who need it most but it will save the lowest income pensioners almost nothing. When you live on almost nothing I guess this is potentially a vital improvement. But it’s tiny.

Pensioners who get just the state pension get the 'tax break'. Those who saved anything for even a very small private pension get nothing. We have been thrown to the wolves.

Of course in 1988 the other 19 in 20 paid a basic rate of 27%, reducing in the budget to 25% for 1989.

It's all just tinkering with a broken system, isn't it? We need to build a million council houses. At the very least double the welfare bill and nationalise all utilities, all public transport and farming just as a start.
