Its a thing because so many UK car drivers HATE. ab-so-lute-ly HATE cyclists. And there has been 0 campaigns telling UK drivers that they are NOT the ones who are sacred on the roads. So they feel thisvisceral hate against those who dare oppose them. This has consequences.

The Dutch idea of the cyclist on the road having the same rights as you was something that wasn't nomal in the 80's... they have had a 30 year long campaign before it actually became normalised. Here.... nada. This is a consequence of that.

I was hit by a van a couple of years ago at a junction after which I came off the road and into a ditch. The driver never stopped. Thankfully I wasn’t injured but it did put me off and I have ridden far less since.
