I was a Fed for 35+ years. Often told newer staff that Federal service is a calling - if you can deal with the bureaucracy and boring then please please stay. Most people cannot thrive in that environment and we need good people to do important work for the public!

indeed in so far as they have a role in elections its as local candidates sin eater so Congressman X can go back to his district and say "I really do support ponies for all but mean old majority leader won't let us have a vote, darn!"
