I don't know where I'm going with this, just reflecting on what I had when I was growing up isn't there for my kids. Feel quite sad about it.

Later it just occurs to me that I'm failing as a parent. Failing to pass on our culture, failing to give my kids a rich view of they're own culture. Bit difficult in the face of the American default, if no one around you is really interested in the richness of our own stuff. Not even school.

No, fairies are fairies. They aren't good or bad, they are fairies. They're like nature: beautiful, terrible, they are what they are. Respect them, like nature. Wow. I never knew that. I thought fairies were pretty, with wings. No that is beige fairies... You can largely thank, America for that.

Just walking eldest to school, a convo: Can't wait to go Trick or Treating! You mean Guisin'? You know something, I don't know what that means. School don't talk about this? No. (I explain a bit about why trick or treating is beige Halloween) That's really interesting... So fairies aren't good?
