I've loved a lot of stories, but those people on the Enterprise helped make me. They set a bar, a model, a standard. I'm so grateful to them all. Patrick Stewart gave us something wonderful. What he gave remains, and there's some joy in watching so many people unfold the many parts of that gift.

I wish I had a time machine, so I could go back and hear my parents' reaction. I was so caught up in the story that I didn't catch it. One of those sudden laughs of recognition? Of shock? A sharp "wait, What?" from my Dad?

By the end of the episode, they were fans. That understates it. We spent so long talking about what we had seen, in disbelief and wonder. And we watched the next episode, and the episode after that, and DS9, and every bit of Voyager we could.
