General reminder that I have a history podcast. I try to use it to explore interesting, overlooked bits of history. And to do so in a way that's accessible but doesn't fall back to doing the same old topics just to trigger Youtube algorithms etc e.g. Nazi escape routes were complex and fascinating
Show Postonce word reached the US high command about what Clark kept trying to do, he was explicilty order to quit trying to start WW3. It was an incredibly deft bit of military and political manoeuvring by Jackson.
Show PostLater Clark tried to launch a larger attack which would have used US troops. Jackson, as force commander, deliberately tricked him into agreeing to let British troops do it instead. He knew their local commanders would refuse, as Blunt had, and alert London. Who would alert the US high command.
Show PostThe B&R light tanks were the scout vanguard. The full column, which included American troops, had been held up by Serbian army roadblocks. Blunt told me they were confident they COULD still have taken the airport. "We were good. And we had the Norwegians [The FSK]. They were bloody terrifying."
Show Posti think we rightly talk a lot about when the British Army, or serving military in general, tragically fail to exercise their moral responsibility. But i think it's equally important to highlight those times a soldier gets it right. If only to act as an example to others. Blunt is such an example.
