For me especially, yes. I have a congenital condition that rapidly degrades my lower vertebrae and makes me vulnerable to herniated discs. So I avoided squats and deadlifts, so my lower back stayed weak, so it got worse. By strengthening my core, I get more stability, and can do deep squats.
