Most wasp species aren't inherently aggressive, they just don't like being swatted at or people getting too close to their nest. I'm actually a bit surprised they were as chill as they were about Moss touching their nest at all though, but Moss probably took measures to seem as non-threatening as

When I have been stung by wasps in the past, it was usually because I didn't know they were there, so I couldn't see them doing their posturing. Paper wasps are clever enough to stop caring about people if you are near them but don't do anything they dislike.
