Is “black cats are in danger in October” an urban legend along the lines of razor blades in apples, or some false danger dreamed up by American Christians, or do people adopt black cats as Halloween decorations and then realize they don’t want a cat?

Since it's that time of year (nearly Halloween already), let me give you a PSA: No, black cats are not being adopted or stolen by "cults", or sacrificed by "Satanists", or being tortured or killed. That's folk devil, moral panic thinking. Adopt a black cat. They're little voids that go "myeh".
