Show Postmany people have completely memory-holed this. Young Black people (overwhelmingly) stayed in the streets for 375 days... en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ferguso... - I still get people who think that it lasted "one week."
Show PostChicago, 2002. I was in my early 20s for this one. Not much happened (1 arrest IIRC), but the City deployed like 1000 riot cops. They lined the streets of the march route with buses intended for mass arrests.
Show PostChicago, 2003. Thousands and thousands shut down DLSD to protest the Iraq war. Nearly 900 people were mass arrested, including random bystanders. I was in a kettle for an hour or two but managed to get out safely. Dozens of my friends didn't. Several were injured.
Show PostChicago, 2011. More than 2,000 people march through the Loop and try to encamp in Grant Park as part of occupy Chicago. 175 arrests.
