This Alaska story is just like gerrymandering, really. If it’s legal (appears very much to be), then it’s just distasteful, and then having no shame or principle becomes a permanent structural advantage. Both sides doing it is the mechanism to make it so neither can.

Going off on a tangent from this, I wonder if a lot of the weirdness of our current politics and its inability to perceive or respond to the country at large is downstream of the fact most young political staffers/think-tankers are facing this weird (in the context of the country) set of incentives
