Would need citations on that one. I've never heard of any study actually showing that. The bigger issue id imagine is the propaganda (or any other intentional psychological manipulation), not an innate quality of realism even if ultraviolent.

The "violent video games make kids violent" discussion missed the opportunity to examine who in the game is doing the violence and what kind of violence it is. Diablo II did not make me more violent as a kid, but Modern Warfare DID propagandize a lot of people into supporting violent imperialism
