There is a Guy who is at every planetary science meeting I go to. He is older than me. He worked on the same planet I worked on. He went to the same undergrad college I did. He is a male chauvinist pig. He thinks we are buddies. He is wrong but he will never learn that he is wrong.

I thought that I had gotten through this meeting without being trapped into a conversation with him. I was wrong. I got trapped. As ever, he just talked and talked while the other three of us in the group waited for an opportunity to end all our suffering.

I spent the whole time thinking, I could just turn to you and tell you that we all think you are tiresome and boring and please go away because we don’t care about your monologue about yourself. But we were all too polite to do that.

One of the reasons I am finally going through with gender transition stuff toward a non-gendered identity is to feel more comfortable about not accommodating Guys like this guy. But he is so clueless that I think he will always serve as a test of whether he thinks I will suffer his self-importance.
