I've added wax to cyanotypes, to give them that sheen and protect them a little if they are going to be displayed without glass. Beeswax (here experimentally in the form of a boot waterproofing cream) gives a sepia effect which adds something to the toning (in this case red wine). Muck about I say.

From what I recall, the Caffenol does a good job of breaking up the remjet layer. Some vigorous agitation while rinsing removed most of it, and the last bits were wiped away with a wet microfiber cloth
