@marslogander.bsky.socialJean-Pierre a 100 ans aujourd'hui. C'est sans doute le Français vivant le plus éminent. En son honneur, 1 like, une contribution majeure de Jean-Pierre Serre aux mathématiques.
Show PostFlying through Death Valley, from south to north, to illustrate the differences between the alluvial fans on the eastern and western sides. Flow accumulation maps draped over a digital elevation model. Data: USGS 3DEP (download it from @opentopography.org); processing with @whiteboxgeo.bsky.social
Show PostPlanets that orbit very close to their stars are expected to be airless, but scientists have recently observed planets that defy this theory. How is this possible? Stanford researchers offer an explanation that could inform the search for life beyond our solar system. stanford.io/4ypg6qJ
Show PostIn Part 2 (doi.org/10.22541/essoar.15007251/v1), we investigate how grain motion statistics vary with stress history. Metrics for the bulk sediment bed (grain activity, entrainment probability) are sensitive to stress history, while grain kinematic variables (flight distance, travel time) are not.
