In today's newsletter I wrote about Patrick Stewart. He played a character who, after my father, served as the most important model of masculinity for me when I was young. I know that may sound silly, but it's true. www.cupofcoffeenews.com/cup-of-coffe...

And the fight was never his first choice. But I also appreciated the nuance they treated the character with. He was still human. He just wanted a vacation without Q showing up. He hated Wesley Crusher. His hobbies informed his work and vice versa. And he hated Wesley Crusher.

This is precisely how I felt about Patrick Stewart and Star Trek too. Saturday nights I got to stay up late with dad to watch the new episodes. Dad, and Captain Picard, were my models of positive masculinity. When Picard chose to fight, he did so to protect the weak, or the morally correct.
