I found it so profoundly creepy that there were all these rules around it and it was just a piece of fabric. I also was being raised in a cult that had magic underwear that had to be specifically cut up and set on fire when retired too. 😐 I stopped doing the pledge around age 8, just so blech 🤢

I was at a sleep away camp when i was around 7 and this other kid was talking about how scary and sad it was they had to burn a flag that touched the ground and I remember saying to him something like“that’s not really scary”.
