Gamergate was in part a violent rejection of treating video games as something more than a consumer product and instead as an art form worthy of criticism. Enforcing the ability to continue stuffing the most popular and profitable games full of ideology we're not supposed to acknowledge or examine.

People prob convinced him to cancel, and then a couple of hours later he was probably angry, ranting and raving about it, so they gave him some more rallies to calm him down. The people around him know this is bad, I'm sure, but can only argue so much.
