I tell my wife all the time that one of us has to pass first, and I hope it's her because as much as it will pain me to lose the only thing that gives my life meaning, I could not bear the thought of her having to endure that.

On a less funny note, this post reminds me of a conference I had with an (older) arbitrator earlier this week, where he let the sides know he was retiring because his wife had passed away and gave us an impromptu and heartfelt speech about how much of the richness of life was lost when she died
