Whenever I read primary sources relating to the WW2 UK government I am invariably confronted with the fact that Winston Churchill could be a gold-plated fuckwit a lot of the time, and much of the Allied victory is owed to the people around him who were able to manage his bullshit

Second, his staff apparently failed to provide him with the recommendations of subordinates who suggested dividing the fleet to cover San Bernardino while also destroying Ozawa.
Show PostHalsey’s mistake was twofold. First, he had no plan for dividing the fleet in the event of major action, so once he committed, he committed with everything. That limited his options.
