“Cletus diner denizen” is just a derivative of the phrase “Cletus Safari,” where coastal jounalists go to the rural towns and try to get pro-GOP soundbites. These interviews often took place in diners. All it means is that the guy is dressed in a way that reads conservative-ish.

the ur-example of Bernie 2016 is really notable to me because Bernie actually did a lot of rallies for Hillary and supported her! And he did the same for Biden and Harris. I think there’s just resentment that he even ran against her at all instead of letting her be coronated
