After cutting its target valuation from $1.4T to $1.25T, OpenAI has reduced how much it’s asking from investors from $30B to $20B due to lukewarm interest. It also may not even hit the reduced target. I didn't expect them to be struggling to raise money this soon.

The question isn't if inference is profitable right now though. The question is how replicable profitable inference machines are. It doesn't matter that you develop the cotton gin first--it matters that you recover the development cost before everyone else starts ginning up their own.
