A well-designed PbtA game is one in which I would expect random jettisoning of the rules to work even LESS well than doing so in some D&D-alike, I'm thinking of "oh we played Monsterhearts but didn't like the sound of strings so we ditched those, anyway the game seemed kind of pointless"

My understanding of graceful collapse is that it isn't really what's being discussed though, it's more like a resolution methodology for how to approach situations the game/the session being played doesn't account for in contextual moments
