What an unbalanced puff piece. 1. Ngāi Tahu aren't supporting moa revival, just Kyle Davis. 2. Geneticists and extinct-bird experts agree that moa revival is impossible. 3. Scofield and Davis are funded by Colossal. 4. This is great publicity and will raise more $$$ from ignorant rich people.

Cool. If only Trade Me could do the same thing with the trade in moa bones, most of them looted from DOC reserves or archaeological sites. We’ve been asking them for about 10 years.

The moa egg that @itiscolossal.bsky.social has bought & will return to the Ngai Tahu Research Centre & Canterbury Museum is from Pleasant River Mouth bsky.app/profile/nicr... 1/4 🧵

The moa egg has been known about since at least 2007 when the 'owner' approached NZ museums to sell it. At the time, Paul Scofield from @itiscolossal.bsky.social & Canterbury Museum said "naturally we consider Otago [Museum] the correct repository for this item." 2/4

Given the kaitiaki of this taonga is Kāti Huriapa Runaka ki Puketeraki & not the Ngai Tahu Research Centre (which doesn't represent/speak for Ngai Tahu), will Paul Scofield, Colossal, the museum, & the research centre return the moa egg to the kaitiaki to have their say on what research is done? 3/4
