GCs are all tearing each other to shreds over things kicking off at the FiLiA conference – again. "Leftist" GCs keep getting upset when they are confronted with the fact that they are part of a reactionary movement dominated by the far right. Seemingly unable to learn anything from this, though.

This is at least partially the result of the conservative co-optation of feminism going unopposed for so long that Faludi wrote about it in her 15-year anniversary edition intro to "Backlash". Many women believe feminism to be "politics that I, as a woman, personally care about."

And fundamentally, enshrining womanhood as a reproductive duty to one's Nation *is* the bedrock of conservatism and the patriarchal regimes it instantiates. No feminism worth its name can afford to neglect the plight of those outside of this heterosexual contract, betrayed by those within it.

Why do you both know this (e.g. Alex Karp says educated women are the problem) but also do not (many struggle to name women academics)..? It's sadly an extremely common phenomenon called cryptogyny, which continues very much to this day: olivia.science/cryptogyny
