William T. Cooper in his book Capturing the Essence says he doubts you will ever paint birds well if you don't understand their anatomy. Yellow-tailed Black Cockatoo. Every drawing is practice for the next.

Powerful Owlet at dusk today. Sadly, this Owlet lost its papa before it even fledged. But its mama (who was in the same tree) has done a great job and has managed to raise it on her own. Hopefully she re-pairs again soon. The Owlet is looking very robust and healthy. #brisbane #birds #wildoz

A new Powerful Owlet! Two, in fact, as its sibling was tucked about 50m away. These were from an adult pair that we discovered September last year at a new Brisbane location. #brisbane #birds #wildoz

The other parent of the Powerful Owlet was also in the same tree. #brisbane #birds #wildoz

Another new Powerful Owlet! This from a pair we found near the river a couple of years ago. This is the first time they've been known to breed. We still need to figure out where their hollow is. #brisbane #birds #wildoz
