We do call them Asian pears! They are absolutely delicious and exactly the right combination of crunch and sweet. Here in SC we have what are called "sand pears," and they are prolific and grow many pears that are delicious, but they don't have the right texture to can with. Grainy. Yummy, but...
Show PostWhen I lived in Oregon, we picked pears in season to help our church, which had orchards. They used Asian pears to cross pollinate the Bosch and other pears, but didn't use them, and I could get them for about 5¢ per lb. We made jellies and jam and butters! So good.
