Experiments are great and all but if they aren't connected to testing an idea, if they aren't leading to an insight, 🤷‍♀️ Measurement for measurement's sake might not be an actual dead end but it sure delays the fun part

I would have thought the success of BRAIN would have helped. But to be honest, it takes a lot of misses to find one good hit in theory, and the rest ends up looking like “waste,” especially compared to collecting new data.

This. I am continually surprised by people who have confused the technical craft aspects of doing science with the conceptual and question-driven aspects of doing science. This is our Pop Art moment. Or photography. Theory in the age of mechanical reproduction.
