Worse, as success rates go down, I'm assuming that scientists, even those who hate AI, will use AI to write grants, so as to minimize lost time sunk on long shots. A race to the bottom.
Show PostThe other issue is that funding is becoming much less plentiful in many places. Large cuts in science across many countries incentivize looking elsewhere.
Show PostWow, that's pretty terrible- the authors inserted >90 self-cites after acceptance! Most citation gaming I've seen is more subtle - most unpleasant one was having an editor "strongly suggest" that we cite their paper(s) as part of their revision feedback.
Show PostIt hadn't occurred to me that Meta would try to Mechants of Doubt Haidt, but in retrospect of course they did
Show PostOh I think that's a bit out of context. Elsewhere in the court documentation they note "academic allies" on the topic, and plan to "turn other academics against Haidt — lot of strong methodologists to say things more forcefully — there is an immediate ask but we don’t know how long this will last."
