AI is cheaper than public defenders, they say. It saves taxpayer money. In that world, only the rich get human lawyers. And lest you think that's what we already have, imagine what happens when no one funds already overloaded legal aid programs because AI exists.
Show PostEven if we get to a point where AI actually stops making up case law that doesn't exist, those attitudes manufacture consent for overturning Gideon and saying criminal Defendants can represent themselves because they have AI. I'm already seeing that from the right.
Show PostI keep seeing people saying that AI is good because it can "replace" a lawyer for people who can't afford one. And that sentiment is SO FUCKING DANGEROUS. Because our right to representation in this country is so precious and so fragile.
Show PostThe best case scenario is that we'll continue to lose rights at a slower rate. And I'm not super-optimistic.
