This. My understanding is that normally the crew swap happens in Puerto Rico, with the trans-Atlantic crew getting a rest day in Senegal after completing the day-long Africa mission. They would then fly back to Puerto Rico the following day and swap the jet back to the first crew.

Right. For crew rest legal obligations for this trip they would have had to have one advance crew in PR, a second advance crew in either Guinea or Ghana, and then a third advance crew in Senegal! Which is crazy. These little airlines don’t have that many pilots!
