This definitely surprises me, even with all the caveats about the operation's scope and limits. Hard to see why the ATF should have any role in our elections at all.

The canvass (i.e., official final vote totals) is certified in late November and the governor has no role in that. Dunleavy refusing to sign it immediately would delay the certificate sent to the secretary of the Senate by a few days at most. Honestly wouldn't even be worth suing him over.

There are other reasons this is nonsense and remedies available if he tries, but on top of everything else: Dunleavy's term as governor ends on Dec 7. Even if he flat-out refused to sign the certificate before leaving office, it isn't needed until Jan 3. Jonathan Kreiss-Tomkins could simply do it.
