btw I feel like I should clarify that I composed this first sentence very carefully: I do not believe these books will be satisfying to most people. That does not mean I do not think slop books can/will be profitable or can be gamed in the algos or can be pushed via clever marketing, etc etc.

If you've been around for long enough in publishing, you know that selling books and building a long-term career with readers who love & remember your books? Two very different things.

a lot of self-pub gurus love to give stats on how they make $50,000 a month and you can pay them for their class to learn how, and it's often someone whose books have no real passionate fan base and you learn later they spend $40,000 a month in advertising to make that happen.

You can brute force sales of a book with enough money to shove into the system. But you can't really create fans that way.
