I'm a great believer that "Britain" can take pride in our role in defending the civilised world in 1939-45, and that "Britain" can be grown-up and civilised and apologize for Britain's role in the Slave Trade, Kenya etc. Equally, neither roles were "me" and they certainly weren't my grandchildren

Curious paradox that the very same people who say that our nation cannot possibly be responsible for the actions of our ancestors past... continue to bask in the reflective glory of wars that were fought long before any of us were born by people who are no longer here.
