This is something that's going to be a real problem in US politics after Trump is gone. How do you reverse the damage to institutions he's done without falling into the same trap? Perhaps the first step is naming it clearly, but that requires a lot of trust with a lot of competing publics.

Note that it wouldn't do any damage at all if we had an actual news media. The fulcrum of Republican shenanigans is ALWAYS a media willing to help them. And it usually runs through the undeservedly perceived prestige of NYT.
