Re-wording slop so it sounds less sloppy has little educational merit. When we allow AI into schools these are the kinds of pointless tasks that end up happening. Here in BC we are still petitioning for a pause in AI in K-12. NYC and LA have paused AI, we can too. actionnetwork.org/petitions/pa...

People are not aware of how much ground has been ceded to AI across education. Students used to have to write everything themselves and cite sources used. Teachers and professors are now saying, and are being trained to say: "Use AI to come up with the ideas, and the first draft, then rewrite it."

But talking about the pause being "sticking our heads in the sand" is frankly insulting to the work that caregivers, teachers, students and others have put in over the last year in NYC and LA. We need solidarity against big tech.

Yvette Renteria is great at acknowledging the real harms that AI has on students. Common Sense Media has done excellent work highlighting how bad OpenAI's student mode is. We agree that more classes on the dangers of AI would be beneficial for students.
