30 October 1979. Engineer and inventor Barnes Wallis died (aged 92). He invented the famous “bouncing bomb” used by RAF in the famous Dambuster Raids over Germany in 1943. In the 1955 film, The Dam Busters, Wallis was played by Michael Redgrave.
