Yeah the people dumping troves of fic in gdrive are being thoughtless but also peer to peer sharing is decentralization, so maybe we can all just chill a little on the humans who are trying to help other humans read human stories

I said I wasn’t going to discourse but like as a writer you do give up some control! You can’t control how people interpret your words once they’re out there in the world or what they do with the material or digital objects in which they are published.

When you publish something you don’t have control over what happens to it. Personally I would like to write things online publicly and ensure they’re read by humans and not the slop generator machines but right now this is very difficult to achieve

One time I contacted a blogger who had reposted one of my original works without permission, and I asked her not to take it down, but to add a line of credit to the book in which it was originally published. She flipped out at me and told me I was “harming her ministry” so we can all calm down a bit

Also I’ve had stuff in my iCloud for years but I only share a list publicly not the files themselves. Those I shared in DM. But I wouldn’t have a friend’s fic she wrote as a gift to me at all if someone hadn’t put it in a gdrive linked on Reddit because she suddenly deleted all her stuff one day
