If you love physical media, come to the Gardena Cinema on Sunday for a VHS swap and a screening of BE KIND REWIND. I’ll be helping my friend @conorholt.bsky.social with his VHS stand and there will be other physical media vendors. Come for the tapes (and DVDs) and stay for the fitting movie.

Laika’s WILDWOOD is astonishing. For the New York Times, I wrote this deep dive into the creation and animation of the General, the giant golden eagle in this fantastical story. I talked to some of key artists behind this incredibly intricate character. Gift link: www.nytimes.com/2026/09/18/m...

Patricio Guzmán, a titan of cinema, especially Latin American nonfiction, has passed. THE BATTLE OF CHILE is one of the most important documentary works ever made. Even in more recent films like NOSTALGIA FOR THE LIGHGT he continued to preserve his country’s historical memory. RIP

I was really lucky to moderate Q&As last night with a group of talented artists. HOPE director Na Hong-jin and star Hoyeon, as well as IF I GO WILL THEY MISS ME director Walter Thompson-Hernández & star Danielle Brooks. Wonderful to see full houses for international/indie films.
