Years ago, I used to get in trouble over my pronunciation of Paul Wolfowitz’s name (he of Iraq war fame). Apparently, the way I said it was deliberately anti-semitic; though I was just pronouncing it the way I thought it was spelled. I still can’t remember what’s the “correct” version. 🤷‍♀️

I’m going to try to remember this. But, pls understand that for people not born in the US, not steeped in US party politics since birth, and highly attuned to each nuance, this distinction is innocently lost on us, and any slips are accidental, not on purpose!
