I had a little think today about something that is probably bloody obvious, but maybe easy to forget in this day and age. Basically husband and I are both extremely stressed, getting about 4 hours' sleep a night (kid has sleep difficulties) and feeling overwhelmed by bad news, too.

He is much less sociable than I am, so much quicker to despair of humanity. And yet. Our kid loves playing on the balcony. And that prompted a complete stranger who lives opposite us and therefore sees her a lot to knock on our door to offer her kids' old toys. Things like this still happen.

Most of the bad news we get is global stuff. Or US stuff, or Russia/Ukraine, or Israel/Palestine, things like that. Things so big that there's really very little we can do about them. Things that make us feel helpless. And in this day and age we don't meet our neighbours very often.
