The US spent about 70 years building this infrastructure and they are just ripping it apart. If they think industry will provide the same service or make the same type of discoveries, they are woefully misinformed.

Incredibly tragic. And It's not like these labs just reconstitute somewhere else. This is a permanent setback. Sure, others may surpass what America is now, but all of humanity has lost because of the willful destruction of the world's preeminent knowledge production engine
